What is CBD?

CBD otherwise known as “cannabidiol” is one of the cannabinoids (plant-based chemical compounds) that can be found in either the hemp or cannabis plant.

For years CBD has taken the backseat to its infamous stoner buddy, THC, leaving newcomers weary about any “intoxicating” effects that may also be associated with CBD. While THC provides therapeutic benefits, CBD is known to do the same without the ‘high’ or ‘couch-lock’ feeling.

More studies are emerging with positive results on the health benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids in the hemp plant. The hype is beginning to grow, the stigma is slowly diminishing, and hemp-derived wellness is now becoming a way-of-life.

That is where we come in.

What is CBG?

CBG or Cannabigerol (CBG), is another Cannabinoid found in the hemp plant that is slowly emerging in studies. CBG is commonly known as the ‘parent’ molecule and when broken down creates other cannabinoids such as THC and CBD.

CBG directly reacts to the CB1 (found in the brain and central nervous system) and CB2 (found in the immune system) endocannabinoid receptors. While THC heightens psychoactive effects, CBG assists with reducing the paranoia or anxiety caused by high levels of THC in the body

CBG is the cannabinoid known to help with inflammation, relieve pain and reduce nausea. Although we are at a breakthrough point of CBG and further research needs to be done, so far studies have shown that CBG could be beneficial in assisting with the treatment of IBS, Chron’s Disease and Glaucoma.

Both CBD and CBG share overlapping positive health benefits such as anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Since CBG improves the effectiveness of CBD, studies are showing that using the molecules together provides enhanced therapeutic results.

This is just the beginning!

Benefits of CBD/CBG

Both CBD and CBG working together share overlapping health benefits. Studies are showing promising results of:

  • Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Analgesic Properties
  • Aides with seizure management
  • Improvements in brain function

CBD for Pets

Just as humans, all mammals have an endocannabinoid system and this means
that they too can benefit from cannabinoid therapy.

Some of the many benefits include:

  • Helps to reduce anxiety associated with loud noises, social settings, or separation anxiousness
  • Gives pain relief by reducing inflammation in joints and muscles for better mobility
  • Improves overall lifestyle by providing immune support, promoting calmness and balance

A Guide to taking CBD (this applies to pets too!)

  • What’s the issue?

Common concerns include chronic pain, overall balance, or anxiety. Along with experience of using CBD, depending on the severity of the issue will also determine the concentration to start with.

  • Start low and slow

We come in all shapes and sizes and that will affect the absorption of CBD in the body. Start low in dose and work your way up to find the right dose.

  • Contraindications

CBD could affect the way other supplements or medication works in the body. We highly recommend that you consult your Physician before trying any new supplements with your current medications.

  • Be Consistent

CBD will not always give you an instant relief. Take daily for optimal results.

  • Take Notes

Because we all absorb CBD differently, journaling the effects at different doses will help to find your sweet spot.

  • Make it a Pairing

CBD is oil soluble so try including with a wholesome snack like our favourite – avocado toast or peanut butter for your fur babies!
